How to Focus on Progress and Not Perfection
Aug 01, 2021
I know for some of you summer can be a real struggle in terms of being consistent with your health habits. With an increase in social events, travel, barbecues, etc., it can definitely be challenging to create a healthy routine or take your current routine to the next level. Please know you are not alone. Over the last few weeks I have had this same discussion multiple times with my clinic patients and coaching clients and my messaging to you is the same - baby steps are still steps.
Remember that in order for you to feel good about your routine, you have to be making some level of progress. So when it comes to your health goals and your future overall health, you do not have to be perfect - you just need to be making forward progress.
So what can this look like? Well, you have many aspects of your health that you could focus on. It could be exercise, supplementation, nutrition, sleep or stress reduction. When looking at the different health aspects, I am suggesting you tackle the aspect of your health that you know you can attain in the next 30 days. That’s right, pick something that you KNOW you can incorporate into your daily routine and be consistent with to achieve your goal.
As with everything, there are some things in our environment that we cannot control, but there are some things that we can and that is what you need to focus on. So instead of giving up entirely on your goals and saying you’ll just start again in the fall, focus on one small aspect and work on making good progress throughout the rest of the summer.
My last suggestion is to share this message with a friend and stay accountable to each other. We already know the power of accountability, but let’s be honest, it’s also more fun to accomplish our goals with a buddy too.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and wish you success with your 30-day health goal. If you need encouragement along the way, we are here to help. Drop us an email at [email protected]
