How to Prioritize Your Health & Battle Pandemic Fatigue
Apr 25, 2021
Looking back at March 2020 and where we are now, it is easy to feel like things are not moving in the right direction. It is important, now more than ever, to understand that we are evolving and we must have faith that we will get to our new normal – it just may take a little longer than any of us first anticipated.
So what should we be doing in the meantime?
For the most part, I suggest that you not follow too closely all of the happenings with regards to cases, etc. because it’s not something that is in your control and tends to perpetuate fear. What does fear do? Well it changes your ability to allow rational thinking and it also creates a hormonal stress response that, over time, could have an adverse effect on your body.
Instead, I would encourage you to spend your time and energy on learning how to improve your overall health to ensure you are in the best position possible to face the uncertainty of our current world. You can do this by replacing unhealthy habits in your lifestyle with healthy ones because if there is one thing I know with certainty, there is NO magic pill to make up for your “unhealthy” daily choices.
Why do I find it so difficult to focus on improving my overall health?
In my opinion, there are two main reasons why making healthy changes/choices can be difficult for you:
- You are not aware of the damage that your daily choices are causing. This is why it is important to have platforms available for you to learn the difference that small daily choices can have on your overall health. It could be as simple as knowing the best time for you to go to bed or as important as realizing that your pre-existing condition (such as a metabolic syndrome) could make you more susceptible to viruses.
- You know what needs to be changed, you know why it is important to make these changes, but there are so many other priorities using up your focus and energy that you never seem to have the motivation to do what you know needs to be done. This is where accountability can help. Having a coach or a pre-formatted program to show you the next steps will help you make the right daily choices and, ultimately, see you reach your health goals.
"But now is not a good time for me to start making changes because…"
NOW is actually the BEST time for you to focus on your health! I am not suggesting that you change your lifestyle overnight as we know that is not how you make changes that will last. I’m asking you to take the time now to learn the impact your daily choices are making and how you can replace them, one by one, with healthier choices.
So, what steps can I take?
