Gratitude and How There is Always Something to be Grateful For
Oct 10, 2021
I thought this weekend would be a great time to share a few thoughts with you on gratitude. One of the practices that I would consider essential in my daily routine is spending a few minutes being thankful for the amazing things that I have in my life. For me the list is very long and it includes things like my family, my health, my practice and patients, our staff and the opportunity we have to serve our community (both in person and online).
In today’s world where there is the potential to focus on so many different types of negativity, I find this gratitude practice helps keep me focussed and centered. We all get to choose where we put our time and attention and it would be my recommendation that you spend a few minutes acknowledging the things that you are truly blessed to have.
When Cindy and I were just beginning our careers, we attended many seminars for both personal growth and practice development and we quickly discovered that the principles being taught were essentially the same.
“The more grateful you are the more you will have to be grateful for.”
One of the biggest challenges that we have learned over the years is to also be grateful for challenges and what I would call learning opportunities. Life will always produce a certain amount of distraction and opportunities to get better. Sometimes we look at these and say why does life have to be so hard? But in essence, it is through the growth of overcoming these challenges that we become better human beings.
So pay extra close attention to all of the blessings in your life by spending just a few minutes each day with this powerful emotion or by adding a gratitude practice to your daily routine. You may find it easier to incorporate it into your morning routine, but I find the best time for me is right before I go to sleep. I will take inventory of the daily or weekly events and say thank you for the things that we already have, the opportunities that are present and the amazing things that are on their way.
From my family to yours - Happy Thanksgiving!!
